Sustainable Glass Furniture
At Glass Interiors we source and produce our Table Tops and Shelves from Architectural Glass Offcuts. These offcuts are a by-product of manufacturing structural glass and are often too small for other architectural purposes so essentially become waste. Even though this 'waste' glass is recyclable* we decided to delay this process by up-cycling these high quality offcuts into the interior products you see here.
This does not mean our products are made from waste glass; instead we are preventing top quality glass from becoming waste. In fact we are now producing table tops and shelves from thickener glass than would normally be used in furniture, leading to stronger and more impressive products.
Conscious and efficient manufacturing is also very important to us. We only manufacture when we have an adequate batch of offcuts and only to specifications that suit those offcut sizes. So basically we make what we can from what we have and then keep those products in stock - optimising our energy and machine usage.
We'd love you to join us on this sustainable journey by up-cycling old furniture or getting creative with reclaimed materials and using our glass to bring those creations to life.
(*Glass is already a sustainable material as it can be re-melted infinite times and used in the production of new Glass. However, this can be an energy intensive process as it must be crushed and shipped back to processing sites around the world. There is already enough broken, damaged and low quality glass being recycled without the need crush and re-melt perfectly good offcuts so soon in their life-cycle.)
